Job Description

The Master’s full responsibilities are the safety of lives, pollution prevention, ship and cargo. In addition, he has the overall responsibility for the entire operation of the vessel and to ensure that the Officers of all departments efficiently perform their duties. All departments are in all respects subject to his orders and while in command he cannot delegate his ultimate responsibility to any other Officer. 
Masters are to bear in mind that the welfare, happiness and close co-operation of all members of the ship’s complement are their direct responsibility and every effort must be made to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the ship. Care must be taken in order to avoid the misuse of authority and it must be observed that command/leadership should rely primarily on example and personal respect rather than rank.

 Notify the Owners immediately for any unscheduled inspection (e.g. PSC or other 3rd party) 
 Act as Ship Security Officer on board and implement the ship’s security plan. 
 Be responsible for the implementation of Company’s policies & motivate crew to follow them. 
 Be responsible for the implementation of SOPEP, Garbage Management plan, Ballast Water Management plan. 
 Ensure that the requirements of Maritime Labour Convention 2006 are implemented. 
 Carry out the Charterer’s instruction according to the Charter Party and voyage instructions.
